The term decides who carries what
An Incoterm sets where the supplier's responsibility ends and yours begins:
- FOB (Free On Board) — supplier delivers, export-cleared, onto the vessel; freight, insurance, and import are yours. Best if you have your own freight setup.
- CIF (Cost, Insurance, Freight) — supplier adds ocean freight and insurance to the destination port; you handle import clearance.
- DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) — supplier delivers to your door with duties handled. Simplest for lower-volume or first-time buyers.
Compare on landed cost
None is automatically cheapest. Compare on landed cost per unit, not headline price — FOB excludes freight and clearance you will pay separately.
Plan the lead time
Preserved foods ship well by sea with a long ambient shelf life. Allow time for production, documentation, and freight.
